State Road Shopping Center’s Last Hurrah
For a few brief, bittersweet hours, State Road Shopping Center was once again a gathering spot for the community. Then, after a ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mayor Don Robart climbed into a large piece of construction equipment and – while the band played the initial strains of Blood, Sweat and Tears’ “Spinning Wheel” (What goes up, must come down…) and the crowd chanted “Let’s blow this place up”, took a few ceremonial swings at the Montgomery Ward Auto Center. Soon after, fireworks were set off behind the building to the delight of the crowd. A nearby fire truck , unfurled a large banner reading, “The City of Cuyahoga Falls is Building a Better Tomorrow (Phase One), Welcome the Marketplace at Portage Crossing.” |
